⚖️ Sahifund Review – Sundaram Multi Cap Fund ✔
PLUS: Stability, track record, cost efficiency
Sundaram Multi Cap Fund carries the comfort of a long 13+ year track record, which gives investors a fair view of how it has behaved across multiple market cycles. The fund has delivered a healthy 15.33% CAGR over 10 years, showing that it has the ability to create wealth patiently over the long term. Its portfolio is reasonably diversified with 70 stocks, reducing concentration risk. The allocation across large, mid and small caps is also well balanced, which suits investors looking for all-round equity exposure in a single scheme. With an AUM of Rs. 2,827 crore, it is large enough to inspire confidence without being unmanageably bloated. The fund also appears suitable for SIP investors who value consistency over aggression.
MINUS: Large AUM, large-cap bias, momentum lag
The concern, however, is that the fund has recently lagged category leaders and has not been able to stand out on shorter-term returns. Its 1-year return of 1.63% is below many stronger peers, indicating weaker momentum in the current market phase. While it is a multi-cap fund, the portfolio still carries a slight comfort tilt toward stability rather than aggressive alpha hunting, which may disappoint return-chasing investors. The expense ratio of 0.89% is not excessive, but it is also not among the cheapest in the category. In a highly competitive multi-cap space, the fund currently looks more like a steady compounder than a category dominator.
Sahifund View (Decisive Line):
A decent long-term SIP fund for disciplined investors, but those seeking sharper outperformance may find better multi-cap alternatives.
