[C] Final Verdict – Should You Invest?
The fund will be a passive replication of the Nifty Next 50 Index — i.e., invest in securities in the same proportion as the index, subject to tracking error.
Taking a look at the Return Profile (historical for Nifty Next 50 funds in general), average returns have been in the neighborhood of 15% for 3 years, 27–28% over 5 years for this segment. Of course past returns are no guarantee.
Because it’s an index fund tracking Nifty Next 50, there’s no active selection of stocks beyond what the index mandates.
This tends to lead to lower transaction costs, lesser manager risk, and more transparency.
The Next 50 consists of companies that are not yet in the top 50 but often many of them have growth potential. If some of them move up into the top 50 or scale well, there could be good upside. For someone looking beyond the very largest companies, this offers an interesting exposure.
Although, during market corrections, they may fall more sharply.
Although this is a passive fund, replication is not perfect.
Cash holdings, delays in rebalancing, slippage, costs, transaction costs etc., will cause some deviation.
Taking a look at peers, DSP Nifty Next 50 Index Fund has given 3-year: return ~ 15.51% , 5-year: ~ 19.97%.
Navi Nifty Next 50 Index Fund has given 1-year return of -7.96% / -8.46%
This fund is suitable for someone who has a moderate to high risk tolerance and can stay invested for 5-7 years or more – wanting growth more than stability.
