⚖️ Sahifund Review – HDFC Large and Mid Cap Fund
PLUS: Stability | Track record | Cost efficiency
HDFC Large and Mid Cap Fund carries a long-standing track record across market cycles, offering investors comfort of consistency. The fund has delivered strong 3–5 year returns (22–23%), comfortably ahead of its benchmark. A very low portfolio churn (turnover ~3.5%) reflects high conviction and disciplined investing. Its well-diversified portfolio with over 200 stocks helps reduce concentration risk. Despite volatility, the fund has shown steady compounding ability over long horizons.
MINUS: Large AUM | Conservative bias | Short-term lag
A large AUM of ~Rs. 29,000 crore may limit agility in fast-moving mid-cap opportunities. Returns can lag peers in sharp bull phases due to a relatively conservative allocation. Expense ratio at 0.84% is higher than some peers, impacting marginal returns. Not ideal for investors seeking aggressive alpha or momentum-driven gains.
Sahifund View (Decisive Line):
Best suited for long-term SIP investors (5–10 years) looking for a stable, low-churn large & mid-cap core holding rather than short-term outperformance.

What lies ahead? Below we decode returns consistency, portfolio concentration, peer positioning and risk profile in detail.
Suitable For Which Investors?
When you invest for five years or more, you can expect gains that comfortably beat the inflation rate as well as returns from fixed income options. But be prepared for ups and downs in your investment value along the way.
This fund invests in a combination of large- and medium-sized companies, providing reasonable degree of flexibility to the fund management team to invest in companies of different sizes, depending on where it expects maximum gains. We believe this flexibility is good for fund investors, but we suggest you also consider flexi-cap funds which offer complete freedom to fund managers to choose companies of different sizes.
Like for all equity funds, you must invest only through the SIP route.
Fund’s Investment Strategy:
The scheme seeks to generate long term capital appreciation/income from a portfolio, predominantly invested in equity and equity related instruments.
